TYR Lycra Square Leg Swim Shorts-Update on Final Review

by FitEgg Tri Gear Review on 2 June 2010

Back in February, we published an initial review and a final review on the TYR Lycra Square Leg Swim Shorts.

After our review, we continued to use the short three times a week at our local YMCA pool until the end of April.  The chlorine there is harsh, but no worse than most public pools.  After each use, we followed the care instructions from TYR to ensure we extended the life of our shorts as much as possible.

However, after just three full months of use, the shorts have all but fallen apart.  The Lycra has lost most of it’s elasticity and the crotch and sides of the shorts have worn to the point that they’re basically transparent.

We are very disappointed in these shorts.  We understand that Lycra does not hold up as well against chlorine as poly does, but we think it’s unreasonable for a decent pair of shorts from a reputable company to fail after three months of use, especially when we carefully followed the care instructions provided by TYR.

In light of the failure of these shorts to make it through even half a season of weekly training, we have to rescind our previous good review and cannot recommend buying  the TYR Square Leg Lycra Swim Shorts.

Dir sir or ma’am, thank you for not showing an actual picture of the worn out shorts…while displayed on your body.
