GU Recovery Brew–Final Review

Early last week, we published our initial review of GU Recovery Brew.  Since we discussed the details of the GU Recovery ingredients, we won’t talk about that again, but you can check out the previous review for the details.

After spending the past month reviewing recovery products, we’ve become quite an expert in matters of taste and performance.  We can safely say that the GU offers the best taste of any of the reviewed products.  We strongly prefer the Strawberry Watermelon flavor over the Orange Pineapple, but both flavors are at the top of our list.

If you’ve read the initial review of GU Recovery, you will remember the product caused some stomach cramping during our initial use.  We’re happy to report that after using the GU Recovery a few more times, our stomach became accustomed to the product and the cramping stopped.  GU Recovery Brew does contain milk and soy, and while this isn’t the cause any issues for us, you should be aware.

During our testing, one thing that we noticed and really appreciated is the extra calories that GU packs into their product.  With 250 calories, 2800mg of glutamine and 1400mg of arginine, we were very impressed with what Brew’s got to give.  These extra calories and ingredients made a difference in the performance too.  GU Recovery Brew provided great energy after our workouts.  We even checked the label to make sure there wasn’t any caffeine; there wasn’t, but some days it surely felt that way.

We used Brew consistently between our double workouts and after long, 30+ mile, bike rides.  We felt a significant improvement each afternoon; very little muscles soreness in the evenings and a real ‘kick’ just after the workout.

GU Recovery Brew is an excellent product for triathletes and endurance athletes.  As with all nutritional products, we recommend using this product before your race day to make sure it agrees with your system.  Also, give each product a few uses to allow your body to get accustomed, very important in light of our initial stomach problems.  We are very glad we did.  GU Recovery Brew is an excellent product that truly delivers on it’s promises.  We have no problems recommending this product to our readers.

  1. You forgot about the clumps it leaves in the bottom of the shaker or glass. I much prefer Recoverite. Less sugar, mixes easier, and more protein to carb ratio.
