Performance:
For this initial review, we used each flavor one time after a hard workout. As mentioned, we’re in the middle of a half Ironman training plan, so we’re working out twice a day. Our first use was after a 1500m swim and just before a 25 mile bike ride. Our second use was after a 2500m swim and just before a 60 minute run.
In both cases, the GU Recovery Brew provided an energy kick after our first workout and we noticed less fatigue and soreness during our second workout. We’re looking forward to gauging the performance of GU Recovery Brew after other intense workouts and twice a day training.
Overall:
Unfortunately, we had some stomach issues after using GU Recovery Brew. Within 30 minutes of consuming the GU Recovery drink, we experienced stomach cramping. Since the product did assist with our recovery, we’re interested to see if the cramping continues after sustained use. We’re really bummed about the stomach issues, because the GU Recovery Brew is an excellent product, on par or better than the other recovery drinks we’ve tested. In the past, we’ve experienced some stomach cramping after using GU products, so we might be more sensitive to certain ingredients. At this point in our review, we can’t make any final decisions. If you’ve used other GU products without issue before, you might not have any issues with GU Recovery. However, at this point in the review, we can only say that the product works well, provides an energy boost, reduces recovery time and soreness, but upsets our stomach.
