Look and Feel
According to the folks at Skyline Northwest, the Ultimate is one of their most popular goggles. Compared to the Hydrobat goggles, these are a bit more standard or pedestrian looking. They appear to be just another pair of goggles. Unlike the Hydrobat, the nose piece isn’t adjustable. The goggle fits well for average to medium sized faces, but if your face is very small, you need to try these to make sure they’re going to work for you.
The goggle frame is constructed of a very soft material that fits against your eyes very comfortably. The adjustment straps are great, and a little easier to adjust than the Hydrobat, but they don’t appear to be constructed differently. Still, we recommend getting the fit perfect before hitting the pool, much easier to adjust with dry hands.
Fit and Comfort:
After a week of using these goggles and the Hydrobats, we’re starting to really believe in the positive pressure system used in both goggles. We’ve been doing 2500m-3000m swims with these goggles and haven’t experienced any fogging or pressure issues. We’re pretty sensitive to the pressure most goggle create around your eye sockets. By the end of most 250om+ swims, we’re used to having red circles around our eyes and the beginning of a nice headache. Not the case with these goggles. It’s a very strange feeling to remove the goggle and not hear and feel the sucking sound of the goggles releasing.
We’ve also tried really hard to cause the goggles to fog, but we’re not having any luck. Most anti-fog coatings last for a while before wearing off, so we don’t think the anti-fog properties of these goggles are too unique, but if they continue to resist fogging in the coming weeks, we’re going to be even more impressed.
After finding the Ultimates two years ago, they are the only goggles I use. Try a pair – you’ll love them!
Thanks Rich,
Glad to hear that. Worried we were sounding like marketing for Barracuda, not reviewers. What’s your experience been with the durability of the goggles?
