Visibility:
Compared to the Hydrobat Race Goggles, the Ultimate Goggles give you a bit more field of vision. In our testing, we generally swim half our workout with the Hydrobats and the other half with the Ultimates. We notice the larger field of view with the Ultimates, but don’t notice additional drag. Occasionally, the Ultimates will pick up an air bubble when we turn, not a serious problem, but it can cause you to think your goggle is leaking a bit.
We’re using the blue version of the goggles and we really like the increased contrast these blue lenses provide. The blue lenses do make for a strange feeling after taking them off, your eyes have to get used to the natural light which is a bit of a change.
Overall:
Though it’s still early in our evaluation of all the Skyline Northwest goggles, we’re really starting to believe in the positive pressure system. It’s hard to imagine goggles not causing red lines and discomfort, so we understand being skeptical. That said, after our testers have swam over 10 miles with these goggles, we can honestly say the comfort is amazing and the goggles really deliver on the comfort.
We are a little concerned about the durability of the extremely soft frames, particularly in the Ultimate Goggles, but it’s a bit too early to pass judgment on the durability. Not to worry, the chlorine levels at our YMCA will put these goggle through the ringer.
If you have issues with goggle discomfort, don’t wait for our final review to pick up a pair of these goggles. Even if they wear out sooner than other goggles, we think they’re worth the difference in comfort, no matter the durability. You can buy the Ultimate Goggles online directly from Skyline Northwest for less than $20.
After finding the Ultimates two years ago, they are the only goggles I use. Try a pair – you’ll love them!
Thanks Rich,
Glad to hear that. Worried we were sounding like marketing for Barracuda, not reviewers. What’s your experience been with the durability of the goggles?
