Early last week, we published an initial review of Hammer Nutrition’s Recoverite. Today, we’ve been able to use the Recoverite for an entire week of our half Ironman distance training and are pleased to offer this final review. Again, thanks to Hammer Nutrition for supplying the samples.
You can review the initial review for full nutritional and ingredient details.
In the past 7 days, we have used the Hammer Recoverite after a workout every day. As we’re in the middle of our training for a half Ironman that means four of the seven days included two workouts and the remaining three days had only one workout session. After some really long workouts, 50+ mile bike rides for example, we feel the product did aid in muscle recovery. For example, Sunday’s workout was a little more than 50 miles on the bike. After the ride, I could definitely feel muscle tightness, particularly in our quads. It’s very normal to be a bit tight, if not downright sore, so the Recoverite greatly reduced muscle tightness and soreness in the hours after our workout. Waking up Monday morning, we felt fantastic. We even did an additional 60 minute walk on Sunday night. Since we’re in our 10th week of training, we’re doing 4 double workouts per week and recovery is essential to our training success.
We could really feel the impact of the product on those days when we swam very hard in the morning and then needed to run 6 or miles in the afternoon or bike 30+ miles. After a few days of using Hammer’s Recoverite, we even started looking forward to our afternoon workouts, leading us to believe that the product is actively assisting our recovery.
Immediately after consuming the product we felt a bit rejuvenated and noticed that it diminished our need to eat immediately after a hard workout. That said, we clearly needed to eat a proper meal soon after the workout, but the Recoverite certainly took the sharp edge off the hunger pains.
Hammer’s website also mentions that Recoverite can be used as a meal replacement by consuming 1-3 servings in place of a meal. Hammer cautions that you should not replace more than one or two meals per day. We did not test Recoverite as a meal replacement, so we cannot comment on it’s effectiveness in that capacity.
In our initial review, we complimented the bland flavor of this product. Though we haven’t completely changed our mind, after repeated use the flavor can become a bit medicinal. Though medicinal isn’t a great flavor profile, we still prefer the flavor to other, more heavily flavored recovery drinks.
Most triathletes and endurance athletes agree that recovery is one of the most essential and frequently overlooked aspects of training. After a week of constant use and serious training, we’re happy to report that Recoverite lives up to it’s claims to assist with speedy recovery. Based on Recoverite’s performance in our real world testing, we definitely recommend Hammer’s Recoverite.
